Bernhard was born 1992 in Salzburg, Austria. He is living in Vienna, where he studied directing at the Vienna Film Academy.
His short film EXCUSE ME, I'M LOOKING FOR THE PING-PONG ROOM AND MY GIRLFRIEND was awarded Best Short Film at the Austrian Film Awards 2019, won the Max Ophüls Award, as well as both short film awards at the Diagonale – Festival of Austrian Film. His short RECORDINGS FOR A WEATHER CAMERA was nominated for the 2023 First Steps Award.
Bernhard's shorts have been screened at prestigious film festivals and won numerous awards. His films have been broadcasted by ARTE/ZDF, SRF and MDR, selected as Vimeo staff picks and one as Short Of The Week. Another one went viral on different social media platforms with more than 35 million views in total. Bernhard is an alumni of Berlinale Talents, Locarno Filmmakers Academy, Zürich Film Festival Academy and Talent Village Les Arcs.
Currently Bernhard is in post production for his debut feature film PEACOCK. With his script he was selected for the 40th Cinéfondation Residence of the 73rd Festival de Cannes 2020 (artist-in-residence program). The Austrian-German co-production starrs Albrecht Schuch, Julia Franz Richter, Anton Noori, Maria Hofstätter, Branko Samarovski, Salka Weber and many more. MK2 is World Sales, Wild Bunch has taken over Austrian-German distribution.
